For kids of any age, push scooters offer a fun way to get around and have an adventure outdoors! At Radio Flyer, we’ve engineered high-quality kids’ scooters for your youngest up to your oldest. Our 3-wheel scooters offer the balance and stability that can help support your littlest ones as they fine-tune their motor skills, as well as an added foot brake for extra control. For older children, our 2-wheel scooters deliver a smooth ride, a kickstand for stability, and easy portability, so they can take their new favorite outdoor set of wheels everywhere.

We want your children to have a blast cruising the neighborhood and stay safe while having fun. A lot of careful consideration, feedback, and testing goes into all of our products, ensuring that each one, whether it’s a kid’s scooter or another product, is safe and long-lasting against wear and tear. For added safety, we also offer kids’ safety helmets that can provide support, protection, and peace of mind.

Kids’ Scooters Frequently Asked Questions

What age can a child ride a scooter?

At Radio Flyer, we recommend starting children on our 2-wheel and 3-wheel scooters around the age of 3 or above. For younger children who want to start exploring the neighborhoods on wheels earlier, our Flyer Glider Jr. model is designed for children as young as 2 years of age

Do you have to wear a helmet on a push scooter?

While it’s not required for children to wear a helmet on a push scooter, we strongly recommend it. Helmets add extra protection that can keep children, especially younger riders, safe and protected while they cruise the neighborhood.

Should a 5-year-old have a 2 or 3-wheel scooter?

Generally speaking, children can upgrade to a 2-wheel scooter between the ages of 4 to 5, but this depends on children’s gross motor skills and comfortability with using a kid’s scooter. We recommend testing out different scooters and finding one that is the best fit for your child.

What's the difference between a kick scooter and a push scooter?

Other than the label, there isn’t much difference between a kick scooter and a push scooter. The term push scooter is typically only attributed to kids’ scooters, while kick scooter can mean foot-powered scooters for children and adults. With either type of scooter, children use their feet to propel themselves.

What age do kids learn to ride a scooter?

This depends on the type and model of kid’s scooter purchased. Generally speaking, children between the ages of 2-3 can start learning how to ride a scooter.

How do you choose a kid’s scooter?

When choosing a kid’s scooter, it’s important to look at the recommended ages, safety features, adjustability, and size. These factors can help determine whether the scooter will be able to fit your child, as well as grow with your child. For children who skew a little older, we recommend opting for 2-wheel scooters over 3-wheel.
