8 St. Patrick’s Day Crafts & Activities for Preschoolers

Mindy Stumpf |

St. Patrick’s Day is right around the corner. To help your family celebrate this fun holiday, we’ve prepared a list of 8 St. Patrick’s Day crafts and activities for preschoolers. There’s no luck needed for these festive crafts and activities, so grab a green smock and get ready to craft with your little leprechaun!

1. Bubble Wrap Shamrock Craft

This St. Patrick’s Day craft for toddlers from Hand’s On As We Grow combines sensory play for toddlers and helps the environment by reusing a common packaging item instead of throwing it away. All you need is paper, paint, and bubble wrap. Preschoolers & toddlers can paint the bubble wrap while a parent helps to cut the paper into a shamrock shape. Little ones can then press the bubble wrap onto their blank canvas to create a St. Patrick’s Day masterpiece. This craft is green in its festive color and green for the environment!

2. St. Patrick’s Day Writing Tray

Little ones can practice their writing skills with this cute activity for preschoolers from Pocket of Preschool. Set up is easy – simply fill up a tray with green sprinkles or green glitter. Then, little ones can trace letters or numbers through the sensory bin. Start over by simply shaking the tray to create a blank canvas.

3. Handprint Leprechaun Craft

Crafty Morning created a handprint leprechaun craft perfect for capturing memories of toddlers this spring. Start by painting your little one’s hand with colors to match the beard and face of their leprechaun. Let little ones stamp their palms on the paper to create the head and beard of the leprechaun. Then, they can customize their character with googly eyes, glittery hats, rainbows, and anything else they can imagine. This St. Patrick’s Day craft for toddlers is definitely fridge-worthy!

4. Paper Plate Tambourines

This craft from Red Ted Art is not only fun to make but also fun to play with all day long! All you need is paper plates, glue, paint, and something small to fill your instrument with like beads, dried beans, or even chocolate gold coins! Start by filling one plate with the noise-maker of your choice. Then, glue the two plates together.

Little ones can decorate the plates as desired with paint, markers, glitter, or anything you have on hand. Once the craft is dried, little ones can clap, sing, and do an Irish jig using their St. Patrick’s Day musical instrument. For an added bonus, turn on your DJ Dance & Spin tunes to rock out to with the tambourine!

5. Creative Storytelling

PreKinders challenged students to imagine what they’d wish for if they met a leprechaun. Adults wrote the prompt, “If I had a wish…” on a blank piece of paper then encouraged students to write their answers down. Little ones can also create an illustration to go along with their wish for an extra festive story using their imagination. For an added bonus, take a wagon ride to a fun green location – like your favorite park – to inspire creativity!

6. 3-D Shamrock Craft

This St. Patrick’s Day craft from Crafts By Amanda is great for toddlers and older kids alike. First, start by cutting a shamrock shape out of green construction paper. Toddlers can then crumple 1-inch strips of green construction paper into balls to glue on the shape to make a 3-D shamrock. Older kids can try to loop the tissue paper around a pencil to create an intricate design on their craft.

7. St. Patrick’s Day Slime Activity

Little Bins for Little Hands created a slime activity perfect for little leprechauns. Start with their basic slime recipe and add gold glitter. Then, get festive by adding plastic gold coins or mixing in some green glitter! You can also add in extra learning activities, too. Little ones can practice counting with the gold coins, while older kids can learn the science behind this stretchy slime!

8. St. Patrick’s Day At-Home Parade

Here at Radio Flyer, we love at-home parades! Create your own parade by decorating your Radio Flyer wagon with green and gold streamers, homemade signs, and banners. The 3-In-1 Off-Road EZ Fold Camo Wagon is already a festive green color! Hop in and take a stroll around the block to spread festive cheer or chase a rainbow to find a pot of gold!
