How to Have a 90s Summer with Your Kids

How to Have a 90s Summer with Your Kids

Ali Randazzo |

Step into a time machine this summer by throwing it back to the 90s! Ditch the screens and recreate those moments you cherished from your younger years with your kids now. Keep reading to discover 5 fun ways to introduce your children to the simpler times this summer.

1. Water Table

Nothing says summer more than water balloons and backyard play! With this fun sensory project, your kids can splash their way into a cool summer activity everyone will enjoy.

Start by filling water balloons in the sink or with your hose. Add the water balloons into your Big Red Classic ATW with water, glitter, pool toys, and any other toys for a fun (and refreshing!) afternoon.

2. Hopscotch

On days when it’s too hot for outdoor fun, cool off with a classic summer game inside. With the Tent to Tumble Play Mat, your child can play a spin-off of this beloved classic game without the chalky mess. After the fun and games, they can take a break in the camp-themed tent with the neighborhood kids before heading back out for more fun.

Directions:

  • Lay out the Tent to Tumble Play Mat for your child
  • Have them jump with one or two feet on each of the numbers or constellations
  • Fill the tent with toys and snack for a comfortable break spot in between activities

3. DIY Lemonade Stand

Between squeezing lemons and counting quarters, setting up a lemonade stand is a great way to get into the creative spirit and connect with neighbors! Use your wagon to haul supplies and little ones to the neighborhood street corner to set up shop.  Have them pull the wagon out to the curb and sell their sweet drink straight from the wagon! Plus, stay cool under the wagon canopies, and store materials and supplies in the quick release storage bag.

4. Circus Imaginative Play

Letting little ones’ imaginations run wild has always been essential to a fun and carefree summer. What better way to make this happen than by setting up your very own backyard circus? Start by wrangling Ellie: The Rolling Elephant and other animal friends for a fun at-home imaginary circus performance! Your kids will always cherish their times of being a “ringleader.”

Directions:

  • Little ones should gather their circus acts and animal friends for pretend play
  • Little ones can take on the role of “ringleader” and perform with Ellie the Rolling Elephant and other circus animals
  • Activities can include feeding the elephant, balance games, jump through the hoop, and more

5. Gardening Fun

Dig into the 90s nostalgia by planting seeds and tending to your very own backyard garden! Start by filling the Kids Wheelbarrow with seeds, soil, shovels and gloves to plant fresh veggies to include in your summer family recipes. Littles will love their summer-long project of growing ingredients while having fun outdoors.

Supplies:

  • Kids Wheelbarrow
  • Seed Packets
  • Soil
  • Shovels
  • Gloves
  • Watering Can
